Graduasi Aizat

Today is Aizat's Official Graduation Day even though he still has a major exam, SPM, coming up in a few weeks. In my time we only graduate from college. Nowadays, our children graduate after Forms Three and Five. Come to think of it they started "graduating" when they complete kindergarten.

Anyway MRSM have this elaborate tradition of graduating their students after major exams. I first experienced it when our son, Arif, "graduated" from MRSM Kuala Kubu Baru six or seven years ago. Actually, it may not be a bad idea to have this as it provides the students with something to look forward to at the end of their secondary studies.

It was a grand occasion graced by the ADUN of Pinang Tunggal (It actually reminded me of the late P. Ramlee's Negeri Pinang Sebatang in his movie Nujum Pak Belalang). I wonder how a politician (an opposition politician in Penang, at that) can be allowed to do the honours when a politician from the state ruling party cannot be invited to similar functions, but that is another story.

Aizat may not have managed to get first class (CGPA of more than 3.5 for the duration of his studies in MRSM) but I am still happy for him as he got second class upper and is ranked among the top third in the whole graduating class. I hope he will do better in his SPM. I know he is capable if only he puts his mind to it. I am also glad that his teachers are also happy with him.

After the Graduasi, the school held a "Solat Hajat" at the surau. We stayed in Sungai Petani for the night and will be heading back to KL tomorrow.
